Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

< p > Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, born Maria Ludwig Michael Mies (27 March 1886, Cáchy - 17 August 1969, Chicago), was a German architect living in the USA since 1938. His work after World War I significantly influenced personalities such as Walter Gropius or functionalist Le Corbusier. In 1930-1933 he worked as the last director of the Bauhaus Fine School, taking over this post from Hannes Meyer (1928-1930). Before that he was director of Bauhaus Walter Gropius (1919-1928). Later, Mies took charge of the Department of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), a technical university in Chicago, where he developed a second Chicago school. Together with Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalt or Frank Lloyd Wright, he is generally considered one of the pioneers of modern architecture. < / p > p > Mies, like many of his contemporaries, sought to create a new architectural style that would embody modern, postwar times just as the embodiment of its time was, for example, ancient or Gothic architecture. He stood at the creation of an architectural style which was characterized by maximum purity and simplicity and influenced the entire twentieth century. The construction of its peak period used modern materials such as industrial steel or spreadsheet glass to define the interior.
